The Vivo Y91 is a mid-range Android smartphone model released in November 2018 which is best known for its long lasting battery life. It has a solid build quality with a inch IPS LCD screen having a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels. It uses a dual rear camera system and a single 8MP selfie camera on the front. Under the hood, you will find the Snapdragon 439 octa core processor which is paired with 3GB of RAM. Although this is a solid performing device there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Vivo Y91 screen flickering issue. How To Fix The Vivo Y91 Screen Flickering Issue Before you perform any of the recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular problem I suggest that you make sure that the device is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then you should download and install it first. This will minimize the possibility of the problem being caused by an outdated software version. Once the phone is already running on the latest software version it’s time to troubleshoot the device. One of the factors that can cause the phone screen to flicker is a software glitch. You might have installed an app that is causing this problem or some corrupted data in the phone is making the screen flicker. Right now we will be concentrating our troubleshooting efforts on the software side of the device. Do a soft reset The first thing you will need to do is to refresh the phone software by doing a soft reset. This will remove any corrupt temporary data stored in the phone which could be causing this problem. Press and hold the Power key for up to 45 seconds. Wait as the device restarts. Check if the Vivo Y91 screen flickering issue still occurs. Start the phone in Safe Mode There are cases when an app you downloaded from the Google Play Store will cause the Vivo Y91 screen flickering issue when it is installed. This can happen if the app has bugs or is incompatible with your device. To check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode. Turn off the phone Press power button to turn on the phone then long press on the volume down key when the Vivo logo appears The phone should now boot in Safe Mode. In case the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. To find the specific app you will need to do a trial and error method. Start the phone normally then uninstall an app. Check if the issue still occurs. If it does then keep on uninstalling an app until the problem no longer occurs. The last app you uninstalled is most likely what’s causing the problem. Wipe the cache partition of the phone There are cases when the cached data stored in the dedicated partition of the phone can become corrupted. When this happens this will usually cause certain issues to occur on the phone. To eliminate the possibility that this is what’s causing the problem you will have to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. Press and hold the Volume Down + Power key together for a short while. Release all buttons when Fastboot Mode appears. In this mode select “Recovery”. Use Volume Down to navigate and the Power key to confirm that. Press the volume key to highlight the Wipe cache option then the power key to select it Use the volume keys to go to “reboot system now” and press the power key. Check if the Vivo Y91 screen flickering issue still occurs. Perform a factory reset In case the above steps fails to fix the Vivo Y91 screen flickering issue then the best way to deal with this right now is to perform a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Press and hold the Volume Down + Power key together for a short while. Release all buttons when Fastboot Mode appears. In this mode select “Recovery”. Use Volume Down to navigate and the Power key to confirm that. Press the volume key to highlight the “wipe data / factory reset” and press the power button to enter. A screen with many NOs and a YES will appear, with the volume keys again go to the YES and press with the power key. Use the volume keys to go to “reboot system now” and press the power key. Do not install any apps yet after the reset. Try to check if the screen flickering issue still occurs. If it does then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
