recaps discussion news cast 37 September 25, 2019September 26, 2019 Let Me Hear Your Song Episodes 29-32 Open Thread Final by missvictrix The tangled web is finally unwoven, and the final episodes of Let Me Hear Your Song wrap everything up quite tidily. Our villain is brought to justice, a fair amount of comeuppance is delivered, and the plot comes full circle, back to where it started. It’s a bit overdone, but in a way I’m okay with this drama ending on a feel-good note. EPISODES 29-32 WEECAP Last week we left off with Yi-young unconscious after her car accident. Thankfully, she awakens with no amnesia or other side effects, almost to the point where I wonder why we needed this accident to begin with. To show that Maestro Nam really cares about Yi-young’s well-being, based on how he flew to the hospital when he heard? To show us the strength of Yoon’s love for her as he weeps in the hallway? To make Yi-young vulnerable to the creepy strangulation hands of Professor Kang? While Yi-young is recovering, she secretly meets with Yoon he’s still banned by her aunt to come near her. They catch up on “case notes,” as it were, like they’re been doing the entire drama. It’s a bit repetitive, but I like that they’ve come full circle from secrets and subterfuge to trust and full disclosure. Dramas any of them! don’t often have a lead couple that give each other the scoop as much as these two, so I’ll enjoy that while I’ve got it. Yoon’s umpteenth confrontation of Maestro Nam armed with Yu-da’s video footage finally yields some results. With Yoon and Professor Kang pressing on either side, Maestro Nam finally decides to come clean. Interestingly, it’s Eun-joo he goes to confess to first. He confirms that Kang sent Bucket Hat Baddie to get his pen of embezzlement records back from Kim Ian, and fills in the details of that night while she listens silently. More than the confession here, I loved the dynamic between the two characters. In a way, their love story became more interesting than that of Yoon and Yi-young. Maestro Nam/Eun-joo started off with melodrama and ended with some nice gravity. In contrast, Yoon/Yi-young started off wacky and charming and weird, but ended into a trope prison. But before we reach that conclusion, the baddies must first be dealt with. Maestro Nam gives a key to Eun-joo before he is arrested, and asks her to pass it on to Yoon. I’m not sure why he couldn’t just give it to Yoon himself, since they’ve seen each more than anyone in these last few episodes, but that’s okay — it proves his reliance on and trust of Eun-joo, let’s say? Yi-young, while still recovering in the hospital, is visited/terrorized by Professor Kang, who, in our episode cliffhanger, was about to reach out and strangle her. And man, from the look in his eye, I believed it. She’s saved by the bell, and boldly tells him she knows he was present the night Kim Ian died. Finally, it’s Professor Kang’s turn to be caught in the blinding horror of a car heading straight for him. He’s promptly terrorized by Yoon who was behind the wheel, and I have to say, it’s immensely satisfying to see a weasel like him getting some of his own medicine. Even so, he maintains his innocence to Yoon saying, “Bring me the evidence!” By now, though, there is evidence retrieved from Bucket Hat Baddie’s knapsack — painfully incriminating black box footage that clearly shows Professor Kang killing Kim Ian with his car. He tries to run away, but he’s apprehended by the cop duo that I’ve become quite fond of for popping up on the scene when the plot needs them the most. It doesn’t take long for Professor Kang’s rage to bring forth an accidental confession, and between that and the footage, he’s done for. Much of the rest of the murder incident wrap-up is off-screen, and/or quickly dealt with. In a way, I’m glad of this, because it wasn’t exactly strong enough to warrant a lot of unpacking. While I liked that a lot of it turned out to be purely accidental the lost pen tucked into the jacket pocket, the un-stabbing stabbing, there really wasn’t much meat there. Professor Kang and company were the usual embezzlers and hiders of sins. With not much else to cover regarding the crime itself, Let Me Hear Your Song works on tying up its sub-plots. The final secret is revealed at least, when Soo-young tells Yi-young that she’s had her journal all along. She admits to actively preventing her from figuring out what happened to spare her from the suffering — and the truth about Yi-young’s past-and-forgotten crush on Yoon comes out. This solidifies her feelings for him though I’m not sure they needed that, but in a completely predictable turn of events, Yoon is already halfway across the world, having left her in noble idiocy with only a heartfelt letter in his wake. One year later, the new Ian Art Center is going strong, and everything is in its right place. All the orchestra folk are together under a non-evil roof. Maestro Nam, after serving his time, is now conducting for an orchestra of under-served students. He and Eun-joo shared their promised smile when they meet again. And finally, our Yi-young is now a professional musician. Everything is perfect… but not quite complete. Yi-young herself claimed at the start of her story that it was not a romance, but the last episode, and the final conclusion itself, are both hinged on our couple being reunited. Yoon returns from overseas and seeks her out at the convenience store where they met, and replays their first interactions. He inverts their part-time job set-up, though, and asks her to teach him to sing this time. Though she resists at first, it’s not long before they’re a couple again. This was all very cute, but at this point, the drama really does boils down to a romance. I’d say this ending is… adequate. I’m not unsatisfied or rolling my eyes, but a part of me does wish the drama had reached for a bit more. Rather than slowly unraveling a rather unmysterious tale of powerful people holding onto their power, I would have liked to see a drama that pulled the chair out from under us a bit more. What if something a little more complicated happened that night? What if Yi-young was an unreliable narrator, or what if someone we were made to trust was actually involved in the incident? Let Me Hear Your Song didn’t get a chance to play this edge enough. It started off with an edge, for sure, but that dulled over the course of the drama. I would have liked to see more insomnia, more mind games, and more musicianship. Still, Let Me Hear Your Song made great use of its music and its props. I enjoyed how the mystery revolved around important objects like the switchblade, the pen, and the CD, and how they had an almost personified importance. And though the music dominated less as the drama went on, the use of classical pieces throughout was brilliantly done. I might not always love a drama that wraps up with a sappy romantic reunion, but one that sums up the moral of the story with some voice-over narration often works for me. In the closing scenes of Let Me Hear Your Song, Yi-young is practicing her timpani in a flood of sunlight. She’s a full person now, with no missing memories or hidden horrors in her mind — and maybe that’s why she’s lighter, freer, and finally able to play those drums like we knew she could all along. She muses about the strength of people who continue living even after suffering, and smiles sweetly as she peeks through the practice room at Yoon. Clearly, this message is for her, for him — and for us. I Wanna Hear Your Song Episode 5-6 Recap I Wanna Hear Your Song 5-6 Recap. In this episode, a lot more was revealed about Jang Yoon true intentions towards Yi Young and how she is connected to a hurtful past of his. Below are the highlights of this episode. Yi Young Hospitalized Last week’s episode ended with Yi Young getting flashes of the incident that occurred in her past and became highly suspicious of Jang Yoon, who seems to now fit himself in most aspect of her life. This episode continued with Yi Young waking up in the hospital after being traumatized by a memory of the accident that happened the year also learned a lot more about Yi Young’s life as a child, not only did she lose both of her parents at a young age but the trauma which caused her to experience aphasia for several years. The accident that happened the year before has left her in a state of ordeal which explains her loss of memory. Yi Young Loses Her Job As a Timpanist After waking up in the hospital, Yi Young was reminded of her job at the Shin-young Philharmonic and rushes to reach in time. Upon arriving she was told that there were changes to the song and that she won’t be needed anymore which caused her to be removed from the was left quite saddened by this as not only was she broke but she had reached the age where she should be further ahead in her career but she had been facing a tough time. Further in this episode, she went to Joo Wan to plead for another chance, luckily she was able to get retired but this time as his personal secretary. Ji Wan’s character is at times unpredictable, he seems to be drawn to Yi Young and even tried to kiss her in this episode. He is also somehow connected to the traumatic accidnet that happened. I’m assuming that’s the reason he feels somewhat drawn to her. Aslo, this further expalins Eun Joo’s hatred to towards Yi Young, as the man she seems to love adores another woman. RELATED Jang Yoon Questionable Actions+ Yi Young Finds Out the Victim from Her Past Jang Yoon also in in epsidoe doesn;t fail to amaze us with his unpredictable character. At one moment he seems like a stalker, not only did he move next door to her but he constantly appears everywhere she is. This really concerns her as she doesn’t know if he can be trusted. He has told her several times that he is interested in dating her, but his actions and motives seems conflicted. In this episode, Yi Young’s ex boyfriend broke into her apartment and at first she thought it was Jang Yoon but was alter reassured when Jang Yoon chased the culprit trying to find out who he was. She was left appreciative and grateful for what he had. Yi Young Remembers Towrads the end of this episode, Jang Woo invisted Yi Young over to his father’s home and it was then she saw apicture of Jang Yoon’s brother. Jang Yoon let her know that his brother was murdered last year and when she asked his name some of her memory came back. As a part time chaffeur Yi Young had picked Jang Woo’s brother at the airport, it seemed he was the perosn that died in Yi Young’s car accident. Jang Yoon who is obviously aware of this gets close to Yi Young to force all her memories to come back so that she can feel the guilt of all her actions. The plot twist made us understand his actions more clearly, althoguh I am still unsure of whether or not he genuinely like Yi Young or if he’s trying to get revenge on his brother that was killed in the accident. The next episode will defintely clear up alot more for us seeing that Yi Young now knows that the person killed in her accidnet last year was Jang Yoon’s younger brother. Withonly a week left until its final episode, "I Wanna Hear Your Song" is continuing to have its audience at the edge of their seats as it unveils the truth behind the mysterious murder
I Wanna Hear Your Song Episode 7-8 Recap I Wanna Hear Your Song Episode 7-8 Recap. This episode definitely cleared up a lot of things regarding Jang Yoon’s true intentions towards Yi Young and also we were left with an unexpected cliffhanger. Below are the highlights of episode 7-8, to see the recaps of episode 5-6, click here. Yi Young Cloudy Memory This episode continued with Yi Young feeling dizzy after learning about Jang Yoon’s brother, Kim Ian, that was killed in the accident. She is left in a state of shock after trying to figure out why the name Kim Ian’ was affecting her so much. After she was told he was murdered in a car accident it doesn’t seem like she had made the connection between her accident and his. Furthermore, Jang Yoon had revealed that Kim Ian was murdered by someone he loved, which adds to another part of this mysterious puzzle. It leads us to question if Yi Young and Kim Ian were involved romantically and who his actual killer was. The ending of the last episode was a bit misleading as it brought us the viewers to believe that, she had actually remembered who Kim Ian was. However in the continuation of this episode, she still actually doesn’t have a vivid recollection of who is he, however, we do see where she is triggered by the sound of his name. SIDENOTE I’m not sure if you guys notice, but every time Yi Young gets glimpses of the accident and Jang Yoon is present she always becomes afraid of him. Since the start of the drama, we’ve seen where Yi Young suspects Jang Yoon but then she seems to like his cheekiness. So the viewer is left trying to figure if she likes or fears him. But I guess that’s why its a mystery genre. RELATED Jang Yoon Jealous? In this episode, we got to see more of the mysterious character of Jang Yoon. It is somewhat clear what his motives are towards Yi Young. Based on what we’ve learned so far, he believes his brother was killed by Yi Young and it appears he is trying to clarify if she’s truly suffering from advanced traumatic seems that the reason for Jang Yoon appearing in Yi Young’s life is because he wants her to feel the guilt after killing someone he loved. He probably hates to see her living an unbothered life as if nothing ever happened. This can be proven by the different palaces he invites her to, they are all somewhat connected to his brother, hence that could be his way to bring back her lost memory. Also in this episode, we saw Jang Yoon showing jealousy when he saw that Maestro Nam and Yi Young were eating at the restaurant he worked. He immediately tried to trash their date by bringing up details about him and Yi Young calling each other at nights. And again it makes us question if he truly likes her or if he is trying to avenge his brother’s death. He somewhat seems confused at times as it appears he is slowly falling for Yi Young. The Kiss The kiss that happened in this episode was one of the highlights, it was certainly unexpected. We can definitely see where Yi Young is starting to acknowledge her feelings for Jang Yoon and it appears he is starting to do the same. What made this scene so delightful was how the kiss was initiated. Yi Young was very bold when she asked Jang Yoon if she could kiss him, at first it seemed like he hesitated but went in after a bit. As I said before, even though Jang Yoon has an ulterior motive towards Yi Young, he seems to be warming up to her and that kiss just made it official. The Biggest Cliffhanger Another highlight of this episode was finding out that Maestro Nam was at the scene of the car accident where Kim Ian was killed. In the flashback, he was seen standing over him. This writer’s intentionally left us with this cliff hanger to make us believe that Maestro Nam could be the killer. Based on what we’ve learned so far, Kim Ian was very talented, an assumption could be that he out-shined Maestro Nam and that’s why he got rid of theory is that Maestro Nam arrived at the scene late and was left in a state of sorrow as if he had been quicker, he could have saved Kim Ian. What do you guys think? I strongly believe it may be the latter. The preview looks very interesting and I can’t wait to learn more about what happened in that mysterious accident and who is actually responsible for the death of Kim Ian. Completed DeepZone16 people found this review helpful Story Acting/Cast Music Rewatch Value Story RantI regret complaining about predictable dramas, this was so frustrating when I cared about the outcome but I stopped caring about halfway through and lost all interest, I completed watching it for imagine being a blind person that follows sounds, and the writer keeps tossing pebbles around you, they toss one, you take one step there, and they toss one on the other direction, and it's not only 2 directions, but like 3 or of just making it mysterious, they forcefully led you to the wrong direction over and over until the last 2 episodes where the ending is finally starting to was so frustrating that some characters KNEW what happened wouldn't just fess-up when they aren't even awfully evil, they just DON'T want to talk, or empathize with the main result of all of this is a rushed ending where suddenly all the evidences appear, and witnesses talk, to close the were okay, like other comments and reviews said, the chemistry and romance between the leads was awkward, also at this point, I think Eun Joo's teeth were glued together, unfortunate since I was looking forward to her It's alright if you're into classicals, but if you're not I don't think you should watch this drama at all, since this is the best part of it compared to the Value Honestly, once you know the ending there is really nothing remaining in rewatching it unless you want to laugh at the pebbles the writer kept throwing left and right. Yi Young suffers from insomnia after getting traumatized by what happened on 'the day' and comes across Yoon who helps her remember. The surprising combination of music and murder magically works for the recently concluded I Wanna Hear Your Song. Revolving around the mysterious death of pianist Kim Ian, the different characters of the drama struggle to recover. Most importantly, they all try to handle the aftermath of the death. But suspicion and doubt bubble up beneath the surface. KBS TITLE I WANNA HEAR YOUR SONG NETWORK KBS2 THEME ROMANCE, MYSTERY, MUSIC LENGTH 32 EPISODES BROADCAST DATE 5 AUGUST 2019 – 24 SEPTEMBER 2019 MAIN LEADS YEON WOO JIN, KIM SE JEONG, SONG JAE RIM, PARK JI YEON HIGHLIGHTS EXCELLENT WORKPLACE THEMED DRAMA, LOGICAL CAST PORTRAYAL, GOOD EXECUTION OF UNLAYERING OF MYSTERY PLOT OVERALL RATING RE-WATCH VALUE RELATED DRAMAS THE SMILE HAS LEFT YOUR EYES HIGHLIGHTS The mystery of Ian’s death drove the story onward and forward. What’s interesting is that as the plot unfolded, the characters, initially dark and mysterious, gently unfolded. Layer upon layer of their characters revealed the depth that was created for them. The entire cast portrayed the transition well from where they were shrouded in mystery up until they came to light. Screencap from Viu Yeon Woo Jin seems to excel in the dark and mysterious characters he gravitates towards. His most memorable role for me so far is still My Shy Boss. In I Wanna Hear Your Song, he gave another effective portrayal in the silent and mysterious type. But Yeon layered this character further by adding an edge of danger to the persona of Jang Yoon. KBS Kim Se Jeong’s smile warmed my heart. Her bright aura despite the dreary mood of the drama was a highlight for me. Since School 2017, Kim has developed further into a different level of an actress. I was initially worried that a newbie like Kim wouldn’t be able to match Yeon’s acting well, but the pair had an irresistible chemistry that made me come back for more each week. RECOMMENDATION Surprisingly, I thoroughly enjoyed this drama. I would suggest that this drama should be one of the must-sees for 2019. Its unique concept of using an orchestra as an integral part of the story added new flavor to the drama. Bringing in the mystery behind Ian’s death adds an edge of whodunit, keeping you engrossed. Tying it up neatly was Yeon and Kim themselves, a very bright and becoming pair that might be the biggest and sweetest surprise of all.

I Wanna Hear Your Song Episode 3-4 Recap I Wanna Hear Your Song Episode 3-4 Recap. Like episode 1, this episode also started off a bit slow but picked up midway. As the episode went on we saw where Yi Young attempts to make sense of her past and also begins to question Jang Yoon’s true intentions Below are some of the highlights from episode 3-4, to see the recaps of episode 1-2 click here. Hong Yi Young Gets Hired as Apart of the Orchestra From the previous episode we had learnt that Yi Young has auditioned many times to be apart of Shin-young Philharmonic. In this episode, she was called and told by the new orchestra conductor Nam Joo Wan, that she was successful in her reason for him selecting her is still a bit unclear but he may possibly likes her and it appears he knows about the accident that she has no memory off. On the first day at the Philharmonic, Yi Yong was instantly criticized and bullied as there were rumors that she slept with Joo Wan to get her position as the new timpanist. Ha Eun Joo Jealous of Hong Yi Young In the last episode, Eun Joo the popular violinist who is also apart of the orchestra, slept with Yi Young’s boyfriend. In this episode, we found out her reason behind doing such a gruesome act. According to her, she was trying to make Yi Young’s life miserable as she is aware that Yi Yong has a special place in Joo Wan’s heart. Joo Wan also seems to be connected t incident a year ago. However not much was revealed in this episode about his involvement. Jang Yoon Character Changes From Sweet To Sour Honestly I had a hard time trying to figure the mysterious character of Jang Yoon. Since the first episode, it appeared that he intentionally has tried to create a friendship with Yi Joon. In this episode, we saw where he tries to become closer to her by officiating their deal so that he can call her at nights to help with her insomnia. As a result of his strange demeanor she begins to questions who he really is, especially after he appeared at Philharmonic as the new pianoist. Since he moved next door to her, she has wondered whether or not if he is a stalker. Towards the end of this episode, we saw where he brought her to Mount Nam to ride cable cars. What unfolded after that proves to us that Jang Yoon is trying to bring back or trigger some of Yi Joon burried memories. In the flashback she had, she believes that the man chasing her with the knife was Jang Yoon. Again I must say, I am uncertain about the Jang Yoon mysterious character. Hopefully in the next episode we will figure out more about the part he played in the tragic accident she was involved in. To see the recaps of the first episode, click here.
